In March 2003, Wes Harder and John Harder found themselves working at Berdick Windows, with Wes in sales and John in Production. As calls flooded in from homeowners seeking contractors for window, door, and sealed unit installations, it became apparent that there was a gap in the market. While a few local contractors tackled sporadic jobs, many homeowners were left scrambling. The pivotal moment came when an initial contractor couldn’t handle a job in Winkler, prompting Wes and John to seize the opportunity, loading their trucks with tools and diving in headfirst.
What began as a single job quickly ignited a passion. Soon after, they explored the idea of starting their own business. As fate would have it, when a prominent window installer downsized, it paved the way for Wes and John to step into the entrepreneurial realm.
Their journey started small, tackling modest jobs on weekends while juggling other responsibilities. Eventually, Wes transitioned into real estate, leaving John to carry the torch. With a growing family, John saw this venture as a means to support his household while his wife stayed at home.
Starting with a few part-time installers, they gradually expanded their operations. John juggled his Berdick job during the week and installations on Saturdays until he made the leap to full-time window and door work in 2012. Alone at first, he hired his first full-time employee in 2013, marking a pivotal moment in their growth trajectory.
Despite their expansion, they remained grounded, prioritizing quality installations, competitive pricing, and top-notch service. Their commitment to these principles garnered a loyal customer base, and their reach extended far beyond their local community, taking on projects as far as Churchill, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
Throughout their journey, they never lost sight of their roots, opting for steady growth to maintain their authenticity. Today, they reflect fondly on the incredible customers, dedicated employees, and trusted vendors who have been integral to their success.
